On President Johnson's 1866 Decision to Distribute Annuities of Food, Clothing, Supplies, and Even Guns to Various Groups of Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa, and Comanche Indians During the Winter Months, with a Lot of Those Guns Ultimately Being Used to Slaughter Settlers Once the Spring Came
Wow, so the government was arming both sides of the conflict then (the Indians AND the 19th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry). Talk about insanity, huh? Thankfully we're never done that again (and, yes, I'm pissing my pants with laughter as I type this).
