One Of These Days I Wish That Somebody Would Play Procedural Games With Their Liberty

Not a single Republican Senator voted to bring "don't ask, don't tell" to the floor of that body for debate. Zero. Not Olympia Snowe, not Susan Collins, not George Voinovich, not Bob Corker, not Lindsey Graham, not Judd Gregg, not Dick Lugar, not Scott Brown (the who's who of reasonable Republicans) - NONE OF THEM. And, no, folks, at this point, I couldn't give a rat's ass that Harry Reid may in fact have played some games here. These Republicans (Snowe and Collins, especially) put party over principle here ( both of these Senators had at various points advocated for a repeal of DADT) and, yes, for that, they should feel totally ashamed. Sorry, folks, for the sharpness on this, but on this particular issue, I DO have strong feelings.

Will, numerous Republicans would have voted for it if Dingy Harry had'nt attached immigration to the bill.I think quite a few dems also voted against it.

Harry Reid is a no good POS.Put the blame where it belongs.

Didn't Reid himself vote against it? I could be wrong. The final vote I believe was 56-43......I didn't know about the immigration part. All I heard was something about amendments.

Harry Reid attached something to do with immigration in order to garner hispanic votes in Navada.

Carly Fiorina I could live with (mostly because I'm attracted to her and wouldn't at all mind seeing her on Sunday morning talk shows). Sharron Angle? I don't know, man. You might have to throw something else into the mix for me.

Harry Reid is a creepy bastard.Believe me,I'm not at all an Angle fan but I'd take a serial killer over him.

This is a victory for the men and women who serve our nation in uniform. At least for now, they will not be used to advance a radical social agenda -- Family Research Council President Tony Perkins.

The Republican vote was for homophobia, not against the DREAM act.

In a time when qualified recruits—particularly ones with foreign language skills and foreign cultural awareness are in short supply, enforcing deportation laws against these young people makes no sense. Americans who care about our national security should encourage Congress to pass the DREAM Act -- Margaret Stock, a retired Lt. Col in the Army Reserve.

According to Harry Reid, "Senator McCain and anyone else who thinks the DREAM Act is not directly related to our national security should talk to the brave young men and women who want to defend our country but are turned away".

John McCain used to support the DREAM act until he flip-flopped.

Rusty, I don't that "numerous" Republicans would have voted for the repeal of DADT and the only reason they didn't was because Harry Reid attached the DREAM act amendment. If that were the case they would have voted for cloture and then debated the removal of the DREAM act amendment.

Unless you can provide names and links to statements I say you're mistake, willfully ignorant, or lying. Susan Collins (who isn't "numerous") said she voted NO because the Harry Reid wouldn't allow unlimited amendments. She didn't say her vote had anything to do with the DREAM act.

Democrats Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor voted to continue the filibuster. Harry Reid, "for procedural reasons, was required to switch his vote to a NO so that the motion could come back to the floor in the future".

I think Angle is the creepy one. A candidate for US Senate doesn't run away from the press or threaten violence if the election doesn't go her way. Not unless they know the voters don't support what they stand for (running away from the press), and/or are crazy (threats of violence).

Your point is well taken, wd. This was simply a vote for debate and it should have at least gotten to the floor of the Senate for that debate......As for who's the creepier of the 2, Reid or Angle, wow, I guess that I'd have to go with Angle on that one (though, no, I'm not particularly a big fan of Mr. Reid, either).

Angle? Reid? Joe Wlson? DeMint? Pelsoi? I still believe they are all crew members on the Titanic. Maybe that O'Donnell chick can conjure up some of that witchy magic and save us all.

I have to agree with W-dervish on this one, I had heard the same information but could not find the evidence to back it up so I did not comment at that time.

I remember Dole doing a similar procedural switch sometime after the 94 mid-terms trying to save some bill for later consideration.
