Correction

I stand corrected, folks. It appears that President Reagan in fact DID "name names" in 1947, not during his House testimony, mind you (which, to be fair, also included as friendly witnesses; Gary Cooper, Robert Montgomery, Robert Taylor, Walt Disney, Adolphe Menjou, and Elia Kazan), but by cooperating with the FBI. I haven't a clue as to which names he provided. What I do know is that as President of the Screen Actors Guild he did have some run-ins with Communist agitators and that he himself was a very staunch anti-Communist (as was Truman - who Reagan voted for in 1948, as was JFK). There was also an actual belief among certain segments of Hollywood that Stalin in fact was trying to control the industry - its workers as well as the content of the product. Mr. Reagan's anti-Communist fervor combined with the prodding from Hoover probably prompted the former's cooperation.............................................................................................P.S. For an extremely balanced presentation on Reagan in Hollywood, I instruct you to Macro-History; fsmitha.com/h2/eagan.htm

Walt Disney a commie!?!?!?!

Even though Uncle Walt is resting in his double super-secret cryogenic chamber underneath the castle at Disney World awaiting the genetic technological advances needed so he can create his prefect princess, a combination of all his animated lovelies, the guy can't catch a break.

I've heard people bitch that he was a racist, fascist, gay basher, gay lover, pedophila, cheap grumpy old fart that hated kids, delusional nutcase, and now a commie. Just hose corn flakes did Uncle Walt piss in?

No, double b, he was an anti-Commie. He testified for the committee. I'm not sure whether or not he named names, though.

Oh. Never mind.

So, I guess you looked at the Time Magazine link I provided in the other thread?

Will... There was also an actual belief among certain segments of Hollywood that Stalin in fact was trying to control the industry.

No doubt there are people today who are informing on members of their community... reporting to the FBI regarding who they think is a "radical muslim" (of which there actually are a few).

Reagan was 100 times worse! Yes, there were people who identified with the Communist party (probably more in Reagan's time then there are today), but NONE of them were actual Soviet agents.

But Reagan was an informant with a CODE NAME. I wonder how many lives he destroyed? I piss on Reagan!

OK, so you've admitted you were wrong on this point... So I will also admit I was wrong regarding something we discussed earlier. But to find out what it is you're going to have to visit my blog.

Just like there are members of Al Qeada now who were never followers of bin Laden?

Yeah right. In reality, the CPUSA was controlled by Stalin until his death. Those who joined with it were truly monstrous individuals who sought to destroy this nation, no different from those who join Al Qaeda today.

"But Reagan was an informant with a CODE NAME. I wonder how many lives he destroyed? I piss on Reagan!"

If he named names of actual members of the CP, then he's a hero. These people willingly destroyed their own lives. They looked at the hundreds of thousands Lenin killed, and the many millions slaughtered by Stalin in the USSR, and said "yes, this is what I want for America"

These people were real sickos, and deserve no more sympathy than American Nazi members, the German American Bund, the KKK, and Al Qaeda.

Will, the URL you provided is incomplete. If entered with an "http://" appended to the front I get a "page on found error". If I append a "http://www." in front I get the following error message...

As a courtesy, your ISP provided this page because "www.macro-history fsmitha.com" does not exist or is unavailable.

I also tried adding an "r" before "egagan.htm" and that didn't work either.

I can't look at your link unless I know what the complete URL is.

Well said dmarks. The Communist threat in the early to mid-fiftys was indeed real.As is today some bleeding heart Hollywood types become stary eyed over causes they usually know nothing about. In this case it was Communism.I'd doubt not many of them knew,or maybe did'nt care how the general population in the Soviet Union was living under Stalin's thumb. They viewed true Communism as some sort of utopia. Its actually quite similar to how todays true left liberal views socialism.

No, just like there are members of the Muslim religion that oppose the mission of al-Qaeda.

People have the freedom to practice the religion and politics of their choice here in the United States, dmarks. I think people who suggest otherwise... they are the REAL sickos.

Classy.

In another thread Will asked why I was pissing on Reagan. I thought the imagery and sentiment were both appropriate so I ran with the idea. So you don't think it's "classy"? WTF do I care? Blame Will for inspiring me.

I also piss on Ayn Rand. I was going to say that she was never elected to public office and therefore wasn't able to translate her insane ideologies into polices that hurt the nation (unlike Reagan)...

But she did spawn Alan Greenspan. Greenspan and Reagan both did a lot of damage to this country. I piss on both of them as well.

As for the Communist threat being "real"... I think it was blown WAY out of proportion. I suppose dmarks and Rusty believe Reagan (in his role as FBI snitch) played a small (but vital) part in the effort that thwarted a Communist take-over of the United States?

Anticipating that you will answer in the affirmative, I shall pre-respond with a hearty "LOL".

No. I never said that. But in the instances that Reagan identified Soviet agents (members of the CP), he did the nation a benefit.

So, in the cases of those who pledged allegiance to Stalin by joining the CP, they either had no idea in hell what they were doing or what was going on in the world.... or they wanted to implement a rule that would have resulted in mass enslavement of Americans and the deaths of 30 million of their fellow citizens?

Real losers, either way.
