On Stock-Car Great, Richard Petty

 

Never been a big fan of motor-sports (and long questioned whether it is a sport) but just like with hockey and Wayne Gretzky I do appreciate greatness. Here are just a few stats for you; 200 victories (the next best is 105 by David Pearson), 123 poles, and over 700 top 10 finishes with 513 of them coming consecutively. Granted it doesn't have the same cache as the exploits of fellows like Jordan, Gretzky, Ali, Brady, and Ruth but, still, being that dominant for multiple decades and doing it in a sport where you're literally risking life and limb, kudos to ole Petty, I say.
