On the Fact that (According to Biographer, David Whitten) In the 1830s, a Black Slave-Holder Near New Orleans by the Name of Andrew Durnford Was Doing so Well Financially that Not Only Did He Purchase and Hire (from Other Local Slave-Holders) More Black and Colored Slaves, He Actually Hired a Contingent of Irish Laborers as Well

Wow, a person of color hiring a bunch of destitute white laborers in the antebellum South. Whoda' thunk it (and, no, you certainly won't hear about THIS in any history text)?
