The right (and some on the left, too) needs to be careful here. We can't go around criticizing the folks who ridiculously call Israel's actions in a in Gaza, a genocide, and then pretty much do the same thing when it comes to the South African situation. Yes, there are some nasty actions taking place there (a lot of them in fact) but it doesn't seem to meet the criteria for genocide just yet. Genocide Watch is one of the more reliable researchers on the subject and they've installed South Africa at Stage 5 of their 10 stage guidelines, so still very troubling but currently lacking the characteristics of an official genocide. If I was advising the President I'd tell him to stick to what we know for certain (the murder rate, the brutality of the crimes, etc.) and to keep on monitoring the situation to keep it from getting worse (as best we can and within our limits).
