Note to CNN's Cornell Belcher 1

Dude, while I agree with you that Herman Cain's comment about Black people being "brainwashed" (in Mr. Cain's defense, he actually said," a lot of", and not, ALL, as was your allegation) was, at the very least, exceedingly inartful, I can also assure you that he is far, FAR, from the only person out there who's using such stereotypes..............................................................................................First off all, you had President Obama himself talking in terms of "typical white people" and rural individuals "clinging to their guns and religion". Then you had Sonia Sotomayor proclaiming that Latino women were superior to white men when it comes to such attributes as empathy, compassion, etc.. Of course, some of the MOST vitriolic stereotyping of all can often be had on supposedly progressive blogs. I mean, dude, if you think that what Herman Cain said was troublesome, try reading some of what these far-left bloggers have been saying about white, working-class Republicans lately. They frigging call them every God damn name in the book! Not necessarily that I'd fully expect your sympathies to flow in their direction, mind you, but, hey, who in the hell am I to stereotype?

President Obama's appointement of a wise Latina to the Supreme Court is a move I very much approve of.

I never heard of this "Cornell Belcher" fellow.

The "wise Latina" was a racist reference this nominee used for herself. Too bad she has proven be Constitutionally illiterate, and hostile to the Bill of Rights.

The Prophet Dervish Z Sanders said...

Sonia Sotomayor is racist against herself? Sounds like your claim that Michael Jackson was racist against himself. I don't buy it in either case.

Constitutionally illiterate, and hostile to the Bill of Rights? You must be talking about the 4 Conservative justices. Not only that but 2 are liars and one is brazenly corrupt. They should be impeached.

"Sonia Sotomayor is racist against herself? "

No. She just made a boast of racial superiority. Racist FOR herself, not against.

The Prophet Dervish Z Sanders said...

dmarks: No. She just made a boast of racial superiority. Racist FOR herself, not against.

She was simply informing people what she had to bring to the table... and I think she was right.

If one were to follow the comments of dmarks (as I have) the impression they would certainly get is that dmarks believes racism is mostly attributable to non-whites.

And people who oppose racism and believe we should combat it through the use of tools like affirmative action.

His heart bleeds for the poor oppressed White majority.

You think you are right because you are a racist. You outed yourself as one when you supported punishing people for having certain skin colors as a means to an end that you favored.

Sorry, skin color brings nothing "to the table", and has absolutely nothing to do with a Supreme Court justice's ability to do his or her job. Not only was Sotomayor being racist, she said absolutely nothing to make the case that she would be good for the Court.

"If one were to follow the comments of dmarks (as I have)..."

You haven't. I also condemn racism coming from whites too. At least I am consistent.

"And people who oppose racism and believe we should combat it through the use of tools like affirmative action."

Affirmative action is explicitly racist. Therefore, people who oppose racism oppose it too. And it combats racism in the same way molotov cocktails combat fire.

"His heart bleeds for the poor oppressed White"

Actually, it "bleeds" for any individual who is discriminated against because of their skin color. It's all racism.

The Prophet Dervish Z Sanders said...

dmarks: You think you are right because you are a racist.

I am strongly opposed to racism.

dmarks: Sorry, skin color brings nothing "to the table"...

I never claimed that it did. It's her life experience being a woman and a Latino that have shaped her into the person she is. This unique perspective (certainly for the Supreme Court) is what she brings to the table. I think this kind of perspective is sorely needed in this institution. Which is why I highly congratulate Obama for this smart and very much needed appointment.

dmarks: You outed yourself as one when you supported punishing people for having certain skin colors as a means to an end that you favored.

The end that I favor is the mitigation of racism. Only in the "black is white", "up is down" world of racists like dmarks is support of an anti-racist policy itself racist.

dmarks: I also condemn racism coming from whites too.

This statement is completely unsupported by the facts. Every time you complain about "racism" as you perceive it... it's ALWAYS about Whites being discriminated against by some minority group.

Actually, you have strongly favored policies which discriminate against individuals because of their skin color. This creates new instances of racism. And as such, it cannot move toward the goal of "mitigation of racism'... it moves away from it.

Affirmative action policies which use skin color as any criterion for hiring and promotion and admissions are explicitly and by definition racist.

Enough with the false accusations, WD. Show one example of my racism. Just one. I have plenty from you.

I call your bluff.

I am not "bluffing". The one, and just one, example of your racism is your labeling of "affirmative action" as racist. The purpose of affirmative action is to mitigate racism. Anyone who says affirmative action is "explicitly and by definition racist" is, IMO, themselves a racist. Because they don't want to do anything about the problem with racism in the United States (which still be very much exists).

I might have said that it's possible that such a person is simply wrong (and perhaps an idiot), but I'll stick with racist... because you could have said I was wrong, but didn't. You say I'm a racist... which is idiotic, because you know I'm not.

How can someone who opposes racism and thinks we should do something about decreasing it be racist? What does dmarks think we should do? Apparently nothing... except dismantle programs designed to combat racism.

I agree with an article from the "official student newspaper of Loyola University Chicago". In the article the author says, "affirmative action isn't racist -- it's mindful. History has taught us that if society doesn't take matters into its own hands, achieving equal rights and status for minorities can and will take years and years".

By this I didn't mean there was only one example, just that you only asked for one.

Another would be you calling Sonia Sotomayor a racist for referring to herself as a wise Latina. I'm sure there are plenty others, although I haven't been cataloguing them, so I'd have to go back and take a look at your past comments to find them. I remember there being a LOT though.

Instead of affirmative action, I much prefer the concept of diversity (a thing that I think hugely benefits a university setting). And, yes, race (along with socioeconomic status, geography, leadership qualities inside and outside the school, etc.) can in fact be one part of quest for diversity. So long as it isn't tied to any strict quota system, I don't see anything wrong with a school selecting a B+ student from a disadvantaged background over a white A- student from, say, Marblehead MA.

And, wd, it wasn't just that Sotomoyor praised wise Latinas. She said that they were superior to white men in certain regards. And while I agree with you that the woman probably isn't a racist, she really should have been more careful in making such a stereotype ladened comment.

Will: I don't see anything wrong with a school selecting a B+ student from a disadvantaged background over a white A- student from, say, Marblehead MA.

How is that not affirmative action?

Will: She said that they were superior to white men in certain regards.

I think they (she) is. At least when compared to the Conservative males on the court. They don't have the same life experience as her and thus could (and I think definitely do) have trouble relating to the poor, minorities, or basically anyone who isn't a privileged White male like themselves.

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

You can call it whatever you want, wd. I just happen to prefer "diversity".............It's (Sotomoyor's commnet) still a stereotype, wd. There are a lot of wealthy white males who can empathize just as much as a wise Latina. I, for instance, have never been to a puppy mill (nor have I ever been a puppy) but NOBODY has any more compassion for animals than I do. I'm not saying that it was an outlandish comment, but I think that even she probably feels that it was at least inartful.

The Prophet Dervish Z Sanders said...

Will: You can call it whatever you want... I just happen to prefer "diversity".

Will dmarks consider you a racist now?

Will: There are a lot of wealthy white males who can empathize just as much as a wise Latina.

So, Obama should have appointed one of them instead? There may very well have been a White male lawyer or judge who was better qualified. Obama DID select Sotomoyor (in part) because of her sex and ethnicity.

So what about the White male who was discriminated against? This is, most likely, another reason for dmarks to disapprove of her appointment.

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

wd, I don't think that either you OR damrks are racists. You just happen to passionately disagree on affirmative action.......As for Mrs. Sotomoyer, I have ZERO problem with the appointment and more than likely would have voted for her. I mean, it is in fact the President's call, right? And unless that President sends up somebody totally corrupt (as Mr. Nixon did 2 times).......
