Bobby Orr (With Apologies to Willie Mays and Michael Jordan)

What would be my answer to the question, "So, who, in your opinion, is the greatest athlete in the history of organized team sports?"....................................................................................................P.S. And, no, I'm not a particularly big fan of hockey, either. I just happen to recognize greatness when I witness it.

I've heard of the other tow, but I don't know who "Bobby Orr" is. I think you own more than "apologies" to the other two individuals... ranking someone I'm unfamilar with above them!

Very simple will;

Micheal Jordan, no apologies necessary since he has shown how great a team player and athlete he was.

The Chicago Bulls won SIX championships with him in his prime, 91-93 and 96-98

and didn't when he took 93-94 and 94-95 seasons off to try baseball.

Jordan has five MVP awards,

ten All-NBA First Team designations,

nine All-Defensive First Team honors,

fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances,

three All-Star Game MVP awards,

ten scoring titles,

three steals titles,

six NBA Finals MVP awards,

and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award.

He holds the NBA records for highest career regular season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game).

Nobody else has dominated professional sports of any type like that, except possibly for Lance Armstrong.

Nobody

During the 1997-98 season, Sottie Pippen missed the first 15 games and the Bulls started 8-7. When Pippen came back the team finished 54-13. And in 1993-94 the Bulls went 55-27 without Jordan and needed a travesty of a call in the Knicks series not to advance to the conference finals. Add to that the fact that Jordan won bubkas prior to Pippen arriving and coming into his own. Jordan was great but Orr revolutionized not only his position of defenseman (prior to him scoring was rare from defensemen) but the entire sport. Little kids in New England who had never even heard of hockey were signing up for youth hockey leagues by the hundreds. And you try skating like that guy skated. There'll never be another.

Ummmm will;

Pippen played both the 93-94 and 94-95 seasons, but the Bulls didn't win;

BTW you also forgot to mention that when the Bulls got Pippen they also got Phil Jackson as head coach, who used Jordan much better then the previous coach.

You aren't going to change my mind, Jordan dominated in the NBA for much longer then Orr did in the NHL, and won more championships and individual honors.

Jim Brown.

I'm correct. This discussion should end now Mr. Hart.

A toss up Between Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers.

Even given Piccolo's life was cut short.

And I'm correct. So Mr. Truth the discussion ought to end now.

Seeing that Will is on some sort of sports kick...a refreshing change I might add,I'd like to tell a little know sports story that has roots in politics.

Everyone knows John Kennedy was a avid sportsman,golfer,sailor and he also loved football.
Well,it seems the Kennedy family patriarch Joe Sr. was grooming his eldest son Joe Jr. to run for the presidency...unfortunately young Joe was killed in WW II.The father now turned to John pushing him into politics with an eye towards the White House.John was hesitant as he always wanted to pursue a career in sports.A little know fact is that JFK always wanted to be a boxer...yes,thats right he wanted to be a professional boxer...there was only one problem...he could'nt take a shot to the head....rim shot here...tip your waiters...try the veal....I'm here all week.

Phil Jackson - what a fortuitous coach. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaq, Kobe Bryant. I could frigging win with those players.......8-7 without Pippen (and with Jackson), 54-13 with Pippen. That's all that you need to know.
