On the Fact that the University of California Continues to Use Different Admissions Criteria for Hispanic and Asian-American Applicants

This is hurtful times two. a) It hurts the Asian students who are denied an opportunity and b) it hurts the Hispanic students in that it often puts them in an environment where they have difficulty competing and ultimately drop out (kids who, had they gone to Cal State Fullerton or Northridge instead, would have probably done quite well). My feeling is that if the government really wanted to help they would try and institute reforms at the K-12 level (school choice, taking on the teacher's unions, a stronger emphasis on trade schools and apprenticeships, etc.) and get the hell out of higher education as much as possible..................................................................................................P.S. It should also be pointed out that the government getting out of higher education would probably reduce the cost of it, too (the tuition cost at Harvard in the 1950s was $800 a year); the fact that they wouldn't be subsidizing it, etc..
