Marylyn Monroe said that Clift wasthe only person she knew that was"in worse shape" than her. But, IMO, he was the best of the method actors .
Yeah, even in his later years he had some dazzling performances; in Elia Kazan's "Wild River", John Huston's "The Misfits", and "Judgment at Nuremberg" (which I gather was partially improvised because of his inebriation).
