On the Administration Trading 5 Taliban Terrorists for 1 American POW

The only reason that I might be willing to give the President the benefit of the doubt on this one is a sneaking suspicion that he's probably going to smoke these assholes the very first instance that he gets. The dude has a better than average record at killing these miscreants/knuckle-draggers and I can't help but think that this fact may have played at least a little into his calculation.....At least that's what I'm hoping for here.

nah, it's the new BENGHAZI man. the right is revving up and salivating at the prospect of ANOTHER make believe scandal.

really, I'm hoping the president knows what he's doing because I think there is reason for some concern here. smoking then in the next year would be awesome.

but in 2016 when we completely pull out and hostilities cease we'd be turning them over anyway.

I try to give Mr. Obama the benefit of the doubt when I can and on this one I think that he MIGHT know what he's doing. "INCOMING, BOOM!"

You might be correct in assuming that we're already beginning to target the fab 5.....but they're largely irrelevant anyway. The Quetta Shura Taliban don't constitute a transnational threat to the US homeland, and we're [rightly so] finally pulling out of our clumsy attempt at COIN in Afghanistan. The only one to be worried right now is Karzai...and even then, only until he hightails it to his luxury compound in Dubai.

Why celebrate the return of an Army deserter?

14 soldiers have been killed in the past five years trying to find this guy....is anyone mourning their loss?

This is a shit storm in the making. I wonder how many innocents will die at the hands of these five bearded killers in the coming years?

You're probably right about the threat, CI (especially now that we've been scaling down over there). Still not sure that I would have made the deal, though; the fact that it possibly puts an added price on Americans abroad and for what Rusty has articulated about this Bergdahl fellow being a deserter at best and a collaborator at worst.

On an equally important topic, gentlemen. Just picked up some Nicaraguan dark roast (you being a coffee aficionado, CI) a couple of weeks ago at the Prime Roast Coffee Company in Keene NH and it is absolutely killer. You just might want to check out their web-site and I'm pretty sure that they do mail-order.

The one facet I quibble about, in the obvious factual narrative coming out, and the reactions to it....is that insurgents/terrorists will now attempt to take more Americans hostage. This has been a pursued tactic of the Taliban [and assorted groups] since the beginning our our adventure there. It's a primary reason SSG Sal Giunta earned The Medal in 2007, as insurgents had already grabbed wounded Josh Brennan and were attempting to exfiltrate with him in captivity.

Since I'm currently deployed to the Pacific for a few months, I've been on a Kona bean hunt.....but 'll check out the Prime Roast...thanks for the heads up!
