Democracy, absent a constitutional framework/democratic institutions (free press, freedom of speech, etc.) = Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolph Hitler, Hamas, and Idiot Ahmadinejad....You need more than simply elections, people.
The power of the rulers must be limited and the rights of the people must be protected. When the rulers are democratically elected, that is no reason to relax vigilance. If anything, this must be remembered even more.
