On the Fact that Race and Gender Are Far Greater Predictors of Gun Violence than Mental Illness Is and Yet No One Would Dream of Denying Men and Blacks the Right to Purchase Firearms Based Solely Upon These Demographics

The country has made a lot of progress on a great many fronts but the stigma regarding mental illness still remains quite strong (coming to the fore again in this gun debate). Sadly.........................................................................................................P.S. One possible compromise here is something called the gun-violence restraining order in which family members who think that one of their relatives might be a threat to himself or others can contact the authorities to have his or her weapons temporality taken away (at least until the person gets some help). While not a perfect solution, it's a positive one and I believe that Senators Nelson and Rubio are actually working on it as we speak.
