On Speed and the Inability to Teach it

Case in point, Brian Sessoms. The dude is a small (5'8" 165) and somewhat unheralded wide receiver out of Carver High in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. But because he runs a 4.36 forty (he also has a 36" vertical leap which is amazing for his size), the dude was awarded a football scholarship from N.C. State which promptly accepted. Coach Doeren probably figured that even if he can't catch the ball all that well, he could probably run back kicks and who's gonna catch the sucker if he breaks contain? A couple of dudes from Florida State and that's about it (in the ACC anyway).

Small and fast, not a bad combination. All they need to do is add a little more muscle to that frame, teach him to break a tackle or two, and he may be unstoppable.

I suspect that he'll probably get a lot more offers if he develops and I'm predicting that he will.
