Note to Detroit (And John Stossel)
DON'T SELL THE PAINTINGS! Please, don't do it. If your area is ever going to make a comeback (and I'm actually quite bullish on Detroit), I fully believe that the arts (along with the waterfront, real estate, manufacturing, and tech) are going to have to be a critical component of it. Yeah, you could potentially get a fair amount of money for these pieces but, once they're gone, they're gone and that would be tragic in many, many ways, in my opinion.

Last I'd heard the destruction of the DIA was off the table.

I think the UAW should buy the art work.
The city of Detroit would do much better to dissolve the UAW (if it were in their power) instead of the DIA. The difference between a significant liability to the area, and an asset.
The costs of the UAW, from the corruption of the money stolen from workers and funneled into political causes against their interest (corruption) up to the loss of many hundreds of thousands of jobs as the UAW forced factories to close and/or flee are quite significant.
The DIA is a benefit to the city and area, and should, in my view, be strengthened, not killed.
Good idea. The UAW can certainly afford them.
