And Then There Were None - R.I.P. Mike Wallace

First we lose Russert and now we lose Wallace. What's left? Keith Olbermann? Bill O'Reilly? Please.

I was thinking the exact same thing.... I thought of Russert in favorable comparison, and the two you mention in negative comparison. And his son Chris is no Mike.

Check out this great interview, with a great thinker/artist who had endured from the Victorian area. Shows how much time Wallace's career had spanned.

It would be a tremendous tragedy if the world were to lose Keith Olbermann... not if he dies (God forbid) but if he does not return to the air. The entire world will be worse off if he does not soon resume his role as the nation's leading progressive champion.

A true nightmare....walking into your office building and finding Mike Wallace in the lobby with a cameraman.

Rusty: A true nightmare....walking into your office building and finding Mike Wallace in the lobby with a cameraman.

Did that happen to you Rusty? Let me guess, it was an investigation into how the gaming industry cheats it's patrons out of their hard earned money?

That's something that rarely ever happens.

Olbermann is an activist and pamphleteer masquerading as a journalist. He will never be able to carry even Mr. Wallace's White-Out.

Dervish Sanders said...

What complete and utter nonsense. Olbermann gives his opinion. He's never pretended to be a journalist (nor has he masqueraded as one). You not understanding the format reflects badly on you, not those engaging in it honestly.

Well said Will.

"The entire world will be worse off if he does not soon resume his role as the nation's leading progressive champion"

Rightly LMFAO off at your ridiculous statement.

But it is certainly in line with what visitors have grown to expect wd.

Come on, wd, he clearly thinks that he's a journalist. "Good night and good luck." LOL......I hear ya', Les. Kirk Douglas, now HE was a Champion (google it, wd).

""The entire world will be worse off if he does not soon resume his role as the nation's leading progressive champion"

That is pretty funny. The entire world hardly knows he exists. Although truth be told he is gaining ground in the "prima-donna talking head" department. A person known for celebrity antics as opposed to their "chosen profession".

Gentlemen, I saw about 5 minutes of a Rachel Maddow segment tonight and during those 5 minutes, she uttered the phrase, "our reporting" THREE TIMES. The woman obviously thinks that she's a journalist who's engaging in journalistic endeavors (probably even when created out of whole cloth that "story" about pharmaceutical corporations opposing Obamacare) and I'm pretty sure that clowns like Olbermann, Hannity, and O'Reilly do as well.

Dervish Sanders said...

Will: Come on, wd, he clearly thinks that he's a journalist.

Keith Olbermann, regarding his program, "Our charge for the immediate future is to stay out of the way of the news.... News is the news. We will not be screwing around with it".

Will: I saw about 5 minutes of a Rachel Maddow segment... she uttered the phrase, "our reporting" THREE TIMES. The woman obviously thinks that she's a journalist who's engaging in journalistic endeavors.

If you look into something and then give an account of what you found out, that's reporting! It doesn't mean the person in question believes themself to be a journalist. Non-journalists can report. Your conclusion regarding what is "obvious" is just silly.

"Rational" Nation: But it is certainly in line with what visitors have grown to expect wd.

Visitors? They're completely fictional and therefore could not have grown to expect anything from me.

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

Reporting on and digging up information is EXACTLY what journalists do, wd. The only difference here is that Ms. Maddow (along with Hannity, Olbermann, O'Reilly, etc.) selectively "reports" only on that information which reinforces her pre-existing beliefs.......And the fact that she does this all of this "reporting" on a God damned news station, for Christ!!!!!!......You see, this is exactly why nobody takes you seriously (and why in most quarters you're viewed as a "nut"), wd. You're trying to twist what is to anybody an obvious fact and you just look ridiculous.

dmarks said...

"News is the news. We will not be screwing around with it"

That will be a first for Olbermann.

"The entire world will be worse off if he does not soon resume his role as the nation's leading progressive champion"

Yeah, right. A professional failure who keeps getting kicked downstairs, and now can only stay in the public eye with antics which include filing frivolous lawsuits is the "nation's leading progressive champion", while the progressive President, the leader of the nation and the free world, amounts to nothing? H

Dervish Sanders said...

Barack Obama is not a Progressive. Although I'm sure you've redefined what it means to be a Progressive. Obama is a moderate in the 3rd way mold like Bill Clinton.

Progressives, and you are NOT ONE dmarks, say Obama isn't a Progressive. Non-progressives don't have a say as to whether or not Progressives consider Obama Progressive (and that would be the true test of whether or not a Democrat is a progressive).

You thinking you're the last word on the subject is incredibly arrogant.

Also, Keith Olbermann's lawsuit has yet to be heard by a judge. What legal expertise do you have to make a judgement at this early date?

Yet MORE arrogance from dmarks.

Will: You see, this is exactly why nobody takes you seriously (and why in most quarters you're viewed as a "nut"), wd. You're trying to twist what is to anybody an obvious fact and you just look ridiculous.

I'd think that this would be why nobody should take YOU seriously. You've never heard of the profession of "pundit"? We have several channels now of people giving their opinion on the news, yet Will thinks they're all "masquerading" as real journalists.

You seriously need to get a clue Will. You're the one who looks ridiculous with your nonsensical pronouncements of what is "obvious".

Most people do not detest pundits like you do (which is quite strange considering how much pundit TV you watch). They view them as a valid source from which to get their news. The only one with the nutty opinion on this subject is Will Hart.

Also, I'd bet Will has FAR MORE detractors than I. I've seen the arguments Will gets into on other blogs. Frankly Will, I think you're delusional.

Dervish Sanders said...

btw, I seem to recall Will "apologizing" to BOTH Truth and me for revealing that Truth called me a nut behind my back. Now, despite his (bogus) apology he brings it up every chance he gets. And now it's in "most quarters" that I'm viewed as a nut.

I say you're a liar. Name names or STFU, liar. I think it's far more likely that it is Will Hart who is unfavorably viewed in "most quarters" (more so than me for certain). Or a Rightwinger masquerading as a "moderate".

Every family member of every resident and student that I've ever worked with has liked and respected me. Who's opinion do you think I value more, wd, theirs or the opinion of some paranoiac, insular, uneducable, unemployable, and angry stooge who thinks that he knows everything simply because some asshole on the radio and/or cable news spoon-feeds it to him? Yeah, you're right, the latter.............I'm delusional? Really, you're going with that? I'm telling you, dude, I have worked in human services for over 30 years and you are RIGHT UP THERE; the fact that you buy into virtually any conspiracy theory that makes a Republican look bad (the one on Reagan has been thoroughly discredited and you still throw it around shamelessly), the fact that you see literally EVERYTHING strictly in black and white terms, the fact that you constantly use hyperbolic language in a truly bizarre manner, the fact that ALWAYS engage in selective moral outrage, etc. I mean, my God, dude, you're nuts!

Will "take no prisoners" Hart said...

Names; me, dmarks, Truth, RN, Rusty, Marcus, Voltrin, Beach Bum, Silverfiddle, HR. I mean, my God, even a nice liberal fellow like John Myste once referred to you as maniac.......And you're thoroughly talking in circles, for Christ - "They view them as a valid source from which to get their news." Their news!!!!!! "Our reporting", the fact that they have actual reporters on and do this schtick (stories, they call them - STORIES!!!!!!!!!!!) of theirs on a, HELLO, NEWS CHANNEL! And of course they're pundits. But they obviously also think that they're engaging in at least some sort of journalistic endeavor (granted, it's a highly biased one); "our reporting", "this story", "our investigation", "this news channel", "our coverage", "we've uncovered". I mean, my God, what are they doing, wd, playing hospital?......And, no, I won't shut up on my own blog. If you don't like what I say, go on back to Sue's.

dmarks said...

WD: The "third way" is a division of the left. Not anything moderate or conservative.

"Also, Keith Olbermann's lawsuit has yet to be heard by a judge. What legal expertise do you have to make a judgement at this early date?"

I have more right to say this than, say, an armchair attorney like Francis Boyle. Whose hairbrained rants have been repeatedly shot down by the actual courts.

Dervish Sanders said...

Will: Every family member of every resident and student that I've ever worked with has liked and respected me.

And each and every one of these people agree with you politically? That is what we were talking about. So why do you respond with a non sequitur?

Will: Names; me, dmarks, Truth, RN, Rusty, Marcus, Voltrin, Beach Bum, Silverfiddle, HR. I mean, my God, even a nice liberal fellow like John Myste once referred to you as maniac...

A bunch of Republicans? That's a badge of honor as far as I'm concerned. And I've never seen John Myste use that word. I think you're wrong on that one.

Will: And you're thoroughly talking in circles, for Christ - "They view them as a valid source from which to get their news." Their news!!!!!!

This is another one that reflects badly on you. Pundits give their opinion on the news. They have to say what the news story is first before they can give their opinion on it. You'd think any dummy would know that.

Will: I mean, my God, what are they doing, wd, playing hospital?

They're doing a job and getting paid for it. Nobody would pay for a fake doctor.

Will: no, I won't shut up on my own blog.

I meant you should stop lying about the horde of bloggers who think I'm a nut. Most people don't buy it and it just makes you look silly. Keep it up then if that's what you want.

Will: ...paranoiac, insular, uneducable, unemployable, and angry stooge...

ad hominem. Also, we've been over this before... you've never seen my educational or employment record. This is highly delusional stuff, IMO (that you think you've seen these records).

"A bunch of Republicans?"

Truth, Will (an independent who usually votes Democrat), Beach Bum, and RN are by no means a bunch of Republicans. No idea who HR is. Your generalization is about half wrong.

I'm sure Truth and Beach Bum, both strong liberals, would get a big laugh at being called Republican. It sure doesn't fit Les/RN, a staunch Libertarian who makes his differences with Republicans clear in so many of his posts. It doesn't quite fit me, who made voting against Reagan his first Presidential vote, joined an independent moderate party but has never joined the Republicans. But when you are working up a head of steam to make a good rant like this, accuracy is the first thing to go.

It's the last stop before you stand at a podium go "BYAAHHH!"

Dervish Sanders said...

dmarks: I'm sure Truth and Beach Bum, both strong liberals, would get a big laugh at being called Republican.

They'd be laughing at you, because I never said that. I said, "a bunch of republicans", but didn't specifically exclude them because everyone knows they're not. I was only talking about those who are... Republican or Conservative.

Also, I'm pretty sure I read a comment by Beach Bum where he said he switched to being a moderate.

Bottom line is his list includes people who's opinion I don't care about. That includes your's.

dmarks said...

WD: I am only going by what you actually said. Will gave a list of mixed names. Your response was "A bunch of Republicans?"

"but didn't specifically exclude them because everyone knows they're not."

Except for you. You included Truth of all people in "A bunch of Republicans". The fault lies with you for unclear writing, not with me for reading what you said.

I think you are using your imaginary English where "create" means nothing like "invent". I know you don't care about my opinion, but what is pretty silly is that you don't care about facts either.

Dervish Sanders said...

Zzzzzz. Boring. Yet again dmarks plays gotcha by taking someone's words completely literally. There were a bunch of Republican blogger IDs in the lot that Will presented. My writing wasn't unclear.

dmarks: I think you are using your imaginary English where "create" means nothing like "invent". I know you don't care about my opinion, but what is pretty silly is that you don't care about facts either.

I very much care about the facts, which is why I accept the Snopes debunking. Obviously you don't care about the facts. dmarks cares more about playing "gotcha". It's pretty sad.

dmarks said...

"Yet again dmarks plays gotcha by taking someone's words completely literally."

That is far more accurate, after all. That is, if you are concerned with the truth. Is it so hard to admit that you blundered by calling "Truth" and "Beach Bum" Republicans? Because that is what you did. I know if I made a mistake like that, I would admit it and be done with it, rather than weave a web of deception.

"My writing wasn't unclear"

It was very unclear. You summarized a group that was only half Republican as "a bunch of Republicans". I suppose if we are to accept that your writing was perfectly clear, the only other alternative is that you were intentionally calling all of them Republicans even though you knew they aren't.

"very much care about the facts, which is why I accept the Snopes debunking"

Actually, Snopes gets some things wrong. Have you bothered to check the thesaurus on the words "invent" and "Create"? No, of course not. If you had, you would know that their meaning is very close, and it is correct to paraphrase someone saying they "invented" someone as saying they "Created it", and it is a fact that Gore did say he invented it.

Snopes also shifted the goal posts with their statement from Vint Cerf. Vint Cerf never actually said that Gore's lie about inventing the Internet was true. He was merely crediting Gore with helping the Internet grow after it was created, which was actually unrelated to the falsehood Gore told on CNN. Snopes should not have included since it is unrelated.
