The Wahoo Blues

One of the most overpaid people in America is University of Virginia football coach, Al Groh. Groh, who's basically been mediocre throughout his career, has absolutely stunk it at Virginia (especially of late). In his eight-plus seasons at UVA (yes, at a salary of nearly 2 million a year), Groh's record currently stands at 56-47 (19-21 since the start of the 2006 season). And with a tough road still to hoe in 2009, his "winning" percentage is sure to dip even lower. Add to that the fact that he hasn't won a bowl game since 2004/has a 1-7 record versus arch-rival Virginia Tech and, yeah, you kind of understand the situation...............................................................................As to why Mr. Groh is STILL coaching at Virginia, that can basically be answered via one word; MONEY. Yeah, that's right, folks, in order to get rid of this fellow, the university will have to contend with a monstrous buy-out clause. Yikes, huh/not very likely? In the mean-time, you have a great university with a better than average gridiron tradition/recruiting base losing to teams like William and Mary (2009), Western Michigan (2006), Wyoming (2007), and Duke (2008). Al Groh WILL GO, eventually. But probably not until the students and alumni have to suffer for another 14 months or so.

I seem to remember Groh coaching the Jets at one time. And not exactly setting the world on fire there either. Funny how that happens in sports, the same guys keep swirling around the bowl.

One and the same, Oso. And before that he coached for a while at Wake Forest. Poorly.

One final movie line I always liked, from The Wild One......

Lady commenting on Marlon Brandos' Black Rebels MC:

"what are you rebelling against?"

Brando:

"whatta ya got?"

Yeah, I was thinking about that one the other day, too. My God, Brando ALONE could give us a long list of movie quotes. P.S. I really like that "swirling around the bowl" line of yours. I showed it to my friend and he busted up.
