The U.S.A. vi sa vi Iraq, Circa June, 1990
1) "We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute
with Kuwait. Secretary (of State James) Baker has directed me to
emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960's that the
Kuwait issue is not associated with America." April Glaspie, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.......2) "I'm entirely unaware of any such protest." Margaret Tutweiler, State Department Spokesperson (this, in response to a question regarding whether the U.S. had filed any sort of protest pertaining to the 30,000 Iraqi troops on the Kuwaiti border).......3) "The United States has no commitment to defend Kuwait and the U.S. has no intention of defending Kuwait if it is attacked by Iraq." John Kelly, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.......4) "Obviously, I didn't think, and nobody else did, that the Iraqis were going to take ALL of Kuwait." April Glaspie again, this time AFTER the Iraqis invaded.................................................................................There it is, folks; unimpeachable evidence that the first Bush administration all but waved Saddam Hussein into Iraq and subsequently acted all surprised when the dude did.......And they wonder why we don't trust the government....Quick, call Dana Carvey!
