John Adams on Democracy
"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide."............While Adams is far from my favorite Founding Father (Macon, Madison, and Mason I greatly prefer for their stances on limited government), on this point I fully agree. The fact of the matter is that in a full-bore democracy, the majority will eventually cannibalize the minority, the poor will eventually cannibalize the rich, and the moronic will eventually cannibalize the intelligent. And, yes, let it also be stated that these same Founding Fathers feared people like Trump and Sanders; populist demagogues whose singular focus it is to incite passions such as jealousy and to run roughshod over liberty. They would have been aghast (at the current situation), I strongly fear.
