I don't have any problem with background checks (we basically already have them for over 90% of gun sales) or a limit on cartridges/rounds (10-15 sounds fair) but beyond that, yeah, it does get a trifle fascistic.

10-15 rounds per purchase? That would last any shooter about 2 minutes. While the gun control camp tries to tout gun safety...that's not enough rounds for one iteration of basic familiarization.
I'm not wedded to the number or even the concept, just that something along those lines would probably be where I would be willing to compromise.......And, no, it wouldn't be per purchase but capacity.
Ah, coming after 'sales', I drew the wrong conclusion. A premise still remains however: an arbitrary number of a lawful item would mean the difference between law abiding and criminal.
