On the Fact that (According to Ernest A. Wiltsee's Book, "Gold Rush Steamers") the U.S. Mail Steamship Company and the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, Despite the Fact that They Were Given a Combined $500,000 (a Large Amount Back Then) a Year from the Government, Charged Their Passengers $600 a Piece to Get from New York to California, While Cornelius Vanderbilt, Who Didn't Take a Penny from the Taxpayers, Only Charged His Patrons $150
Like I've said before, folks, you're better off NOT taking government money...............................................................................................P.S. Vanderbilt also delivered the mail on his New York to California route.......FOR FREE.
