The Most Inconvenient Correlation of All?

How 'bout the murder rate going down 41% (52% if you consider it per 100,000) at the same time that gun ownership and right to carry laws have proliferated?.......................................................................................P.S. Yes, I know, it's just a correlation and other variables could obviously be at play here but you know, YOU KNOW, that if the relationship had gone in the other direction, the gun control folks would be screaming like a banshee and they'd possibly have some justification for it, I'm just sayin'.

That's true. I'm thinking the definition of murder doesn't include 9 year olds unloading an
Uzzi in the instructor's face, etc
so it may be that gun deaths are up some, although not as high as in the since the nineties .
Statistical correlations can be
tricky: sometimes even difficult
to interpet, to wit 'ice is declining in Greenland/is is growing in Greenland, etc. There may well be a correlation between
so many carrying and lower murders, I'm not sure. There are probably correlations for the
decline in bank robberies too.

School shootings and mass murders are also down, BB, as is violent crime in general. Yes, guns can do some very bad things but they can also do a lot of good things (hundreds of thousands of crimes averted simply by people brandishing a gun).......And, of course there's a deterrence; the fact that almost all of the multiple victim shootings have taken place in gun-free zones and who in his right mind would ever put a sign outside of their house saying, "gun free house"?

An semi automatic and shoulder holster for every adult American then.

I cannot help but wonder what the crime
stats would say if the unemployment rate
was @ a true 3-4% and we had a growing
middle class.

Doesn't seem to be at the top of the mid-term election agenda does it?
