On Malaria

It is not a disease of global warming. It is a disease of poverty. Brazil, for instance, has a very similar climate and longitude to that of Guinea and yet Guinea has a malarial rate which is approximately 250 times that of Brazil. The fact of the matter here is that wealth and progress bring about technology and technology brings about adaptation. If we in the west were really and truly smart about environmental issues, we would be focusing more on the things that we CAN control (such as malaria, cleaning up the oceans, etc.) and less on the items that we can't and/or shouldn't (i.e., reducing carbon emissions by some ridiculously unattainable number - 80% Mr. Obama came out with at one point). It only makes frigging sense, damn it.
