Caving in to Terrorist/Idiot Demands

To all of those clowns who now so cavalierly query, "So, why didn't the President just do this (i.e., release his long-form birth certificate) earlier?", I say......several things. a) He shouldn't have had to do it at all. This, I'm saying, in that only an idiot actually believes this birther crap and why in the hell should the President of the United States cater to these people? And b) Why in the hell didn't these same people demand a similar level of scrutiny with previous Presidents (Bush 2, for instance, with his rather spotty military service record)? Is it simply because Mr. Obama is, I don't know, "different"?............Bottom-line here - these folks really and truly should be ashamed of themselves - REALLY AND TRULY ASHAMED.

Bush went AWOL when in the Texas Air National Guard, and when Dan Rather reported on it, he was smeared!

The birthers are convinced that Obama's Hawaiian BC is a forgery, but the real forged documents were those obtained by CBS that proved bush was AWOL...

They were forgeries commissioned by Karl Rove to dupe CBS News into running with the story, which was then "debunked".

And so the truth that bush was indeed AWOL was effectively squashed.

I believe that Mr. Rather was criticized and ultimately had to resign was because of the fact that he may have used forged documents.

Bush didn't go AWOL. This is all a hoax, and it is based on forged documents. You know, the ones Dan Rather was flogging that came from the early 1970s but were really made with Microsoft Word.

The idea that he went AWOL is pure punditry. However, you don't get honorably discharged if you go AWOL. Check here for the truth.

Dan Rather was not smeared. He based a report on faked evidence. And what is worse, when it was found out that the evidence was faked, he STILL insisted it was true despite the fact that it was based on forgeries.... forgeries that were created by leftists out to get Bush, and had nothing to do with Karl Rove.

Will: There's no "may" in the forged documents. The documents modern software fonts that did not exist at the time the documents were supposedly created.

LOL!!!!

Do bears make steamy piles of shit in the deep, dark woods?

dmarks, I strongly suspect that there WAS a story there with Bush and his National Guard service. But that didn't excuse CBS and Rather from running a piece that had very flawed and unverifiable evidence. It was a very sad ending for Mr. Rather.............Double b, I suspect that this whole birther issue will look even more idiotic once in fact the history is written. It'll probably even be another frigging stain upon it.

Of course there was! As reported by the LA Times on 9/18/2004, CBS News was already planning on airing a story about Bush's National Guard service when "newly obtained paperwork offering fresh evidence" was obtained (from a source that was most likely a useful idiot Karl Rove duped).

CBS only decided to use the documents after the White House CONFIRMED they were authentic.

There was other evidence beside Karl Rove's forged documents that proves bush was AWOL. The LA Times article I quoted above said that CBS News intended to stand by their story even if the documents they used to SUPPORT it turned out to be fakes (they were going to run the story without them to begin with!).

In an interview with CBS News that aired on 9/15/2004, Marion Carr Knox (secretary and typist for the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, Bush's squadron commander) said, "she thought the memos were fake but accurately reflected Killian's concerns about Bush's failure to take his physical examination in 1972 and efforts by his superiors to minimize any fallout. (The Chicago Tribune, 9/16/2004)

I anticipate dmark's reply, which will most likely be to declare all the facts I just provided "boobery". If only Karl Rove had known it was that easy, he wouldn't have had to go to the trouble of having those documents forged. He simply could have declared the CBS News story "boobery" when it aired that that would have been the end of it!

Not boobery, but mere partisan punditry. The fact remains that Bush served in the armed forces and was discharged honorably, and never charged with supposed crimes which after-the-fact armchair attorneys wish he would have committed. Just like George W. Bush's imaginary war crimes.

The links you provide paint a story with huge gaps in it, which require great leaps of imagination (Rove providing the documents, Bush having gone AWOL). Whatever went on with Bush's service in the Texas ANG, those actually involved and in the know saw no reason to charge him with being AWOL, and no reason NOT to grant him an honorable discharge.

"The LA Times article I quoted above said that CBS News intended to stand by their story even if the documents they used to SUPPORT it turned out to be fakes (they were going to run the story without them to begin with!)."

The death of real journalism right there. Base a story on faked documents and plan to insist it is true whether or not the hoax is exposed.

Boobery perhaps. Mindless Bush-bashing yes.

Sure... Bush went AWOL, just like Obama was born in Kenya.

I'm not as versed on this subject as you fellows. I do remember, being that I didn't particularly like Mr. Bush at the time, that I wanted it to be true.......As of now, the saddest part of the story to me is Rather. That guy had courageous and patriotic career as journalist, (reporting from Vietnam, etc.) and to have had him literally self-destruct like this was absolutely agonizing to watch.

dmarks, CBS did not "base a story on faked documents".

As I've already pointed out, the CBS story was FINISHED and THEN they obtained the documents and decided to ad them at the last minute.

Who knows how this would have turned out if they had decided to run with the story as is and leave the documents for a followup (after they were verified).

There probably would have been a lot more investigating and then the real truth may have been revealed.

Even if you don't believe the fake documents came from Rove I don't see how you can argue that their existence PROVES bush didn't go AWOL.
