Trust Me?

I sure as hell hope that Al Golden (the new football coach at the University of Miami) knows what he's doing. Based upon his most recent recruiting decisions, I'm beginning to have some doubts. Yes, I'm referring to the fact that, as of now/National Signing Day, the University of Miami STILL doesn't have a quarterback for the 2011 class - this, folks, despite the fact that Golden himself has said on several occasions that this (a lack of depth at quarterback) is clearly one of the team's most pressing issues..................................................................................................And it's not like he didn't have some decent options. Both Land'O Lakes Florida's Stephen Weatherford and the Hargrave Military Academy's (Chatham Virginia) Marcus McDade were literally drooling to sign with the Canes. Now, granted, neither one of these fellows is a McDonald's All American and all. But, still, they're pretty damn good. And at this late stage in the recruiting process, I don't know, I think that Mr. Golden probably should have taken one of them anyway....Why didn't he? Well, he was holding out - that's why. And while, yes, it still may ultimately work out for him (we're still waiting to see what West Palm Beach Florida's Jacoby Brissett decides to do - Miami and Wisconsin are reportedly his final two), right now, folks, it really does look dicey.

I'm not crying any tears over Miami...Maybe I hold grudges too long, ie, The Canes are Big East Traitors or perhaps I remember when the Canes dominated an entire decade of college pigskin...in either case I have one response...GOOD!

PS Thanks for sprinkling in some non political commentary...I think we all need a break from the non stop partisianship.

Haven't heard any college football news in a while, except that the mutterings about getting rid of Steve Spurrier are starting to make the runs around my area. Happens about this time for every coach, the whiny children are not happy they don't have a national championship.

How in the hell can ESPN dedicate almost a full day of air time to high school commitments...for fucks sake, thats worse then three days of the NFL draft.

Marcus, don't get me wrong about Golden. The guy has actually put together a solid class in a relatively short period of time. But to have ended up with no quarterbacks.....when you said that you were going to get 2.....and to have passed on 2 pretty good ones, I don't know.............Double B, that would be totally insane to get rid of Spurrier. I mean, really, who do they think that they're going to get instead. btw, did you see the recruiting class that Clemson ended up with - ranked #8 by Rivals. If Swinney can't get it done with these players, it's going to be him out of a job -not Spurrier!............You're right, Russ - total overkill, especially when you can get the total blow by blow on line.

Jacoby Brissett - he just committed to Florida. Nice job, Mr. Golden.
