On British Military Historian, Basil Liddell Hart

Yeah, this fellow was real piece of work. Not only did he buy into the cockamamie notion that targeting civilians would win wars, save lives, etc., he was also an advocate of, get this, POISON GASSES!! "Gas may well prove the salvation of civilization from the otherwise inevitable collapse in the case of another world war." Of course the real damage from this insanity came from the fact that military madmen like "Sir" Hugh Trenchard and Mad-Bomber Harris ultimately put it into action (save, thankfully, for the poison gas part) and perpetrated some of the greatest war crimes in all of human history and, so, yes sir, a special "thanks" to those fellows as well....................................................................................................P.S. And, yes, I am well aware of the fact that Sir Hart eventually changed his tune on this one, but I am sorry, too little, too late.

Hey, Will, how about that Mario Cuomo?

I always remember and honor him for his strong stance against censorship of TV/radio.

An eloquent statesman.

Off topic, I know.

Cuomo was a class act and one of the more tolerable liberals for sure.

Mario Cuomo -

"Precisely because radio and TV have become our principal sources of news and information, we should accord broadcasters the utmost freedom in order to insure a truly free press." - in the New York Times, 1993)

This was in reaction to those who insisted we needed a doctrine in which the government was given full editorial control over TV and radio, with the ability to determine what was "fair" or "unfair" and censor content accordingly.

Apparently Cuomo had some limits on how much his zeal for liberal politics trumped his respect for our rights. That is not always the case... look at Obama trying to send in commissars to control the content in TV newsrooms.

They don't even let newsmen take their own pictures (at the White House/Crystal Palace) anymore, I gather.

Will: Do you agree that the situation is moving toward what they have in North Korea? A long ways to go to being THAT bad, but moving in that direction is a big mistake.

Speaking entirely in terms of press access, the ruler's control or attempted control of the media, and similar matters.
