On the Fact that if the U.S. Was so Pro-Batista In the 1950s, Then Why Did We Punish the Schmuck with an Arms Embargo, Put Heavy Diplomatic Pressure On Him to Resign, Deny Him Exile In America, and Refuse to Even Allow the Fellow to Set Foot On U.S. Shores?
The straight-to-the-point answer of course is that we weren't......and instead supported Castro. In fact, the only fellow in the Eisenhower administration who strongly opposed Castro was the Ambassador to Cuba, Earl Smith...……….Of course the strongest evidence of America's pro-Castro stance is the fact that the regime was granted diplomatic recognition ALMOST IMMEDIATELY (yeah, good ole Ike and company apparently bought Castro's bullshit about not being a communist, wanting new elections, etc.). But, hey, if you want to continue with this romanticized narrative of Castro standing up to the big, bad Americans (and, yes, we eventually turned on the SOB), who am I to stop you?
