Jessup was a very clever fellow (the Paul Krugman of his era, let's say). Yes, Mr. Douglas had been a member of this outfit but what Jessup failed to disclose was that Douglas had kicked these cork-soakers to curb in 1940, well before the McCarthy hearings and well before even the House Committee On Un-American Activities has labeled them a Communist front group in 1943, 1944, and 1947.
