On the Fact that (According to Kennedy Adviser, Theodore Sorensen) While Kennedy Was Ailing and Therefore Unavailable to Cast a Vote on Senator McCarthy's Censure, He Could Have Easily Either a) Spoke Out and at Least Taken a Position or b) Voted in Absentia by Pairing His Vote with Another Absent Senator on the Other Side......AND HE DID NOT
My suspicion is that while he may not have agreed with many of McCarthy's tactics, he did agree with the Senator that a) communism was the most murderous and vile philosophy ever concocted and b) there had in fact been some communist infiltration into the Truman and Ike State Departments. That and I also believe that the two families had been close and so perhaps there was some loyalty involved.
