On Mormonism, Islam, And the Left

While both of these religions are thoroughly bat-shit crazy and in a myriad of ways, it is only Mormonism (the one, ironically, that hasn't been going on a full-bore killing-spree of late) that the progressive community seemingly wants to ridicule, denigrate, and criticize these days. It really kinda makes me wonder here. I mean, could it simply be the fact that Mormons tend to be white Americans while Muslims tend to be darker skinned Arabs, Africans, Persians, Pashtuns, Javanese, etc., and that this is just another example of the softer bigotry of diminished expectations? Me, I'm kinda thinking, yes sir.

If what you say is true, then it is just another example of the strong racism of the Left.

Part of it is political, Will. Purely political. Bigotry/hate against Mormons becomes acceptable from those on the Left when you have some high profile conservative and/or Republicans who are Mormon. This was really underway last year, for sure.

If Obama had been Mormon also, the haters on the Left would have been silent. If Obama had been the only Mormon, then the anti-Mormon haters on the Right would have been screaming.

Is this the Libertarian Republican?

Just joking. I get what you're saying. It does seem that in the effort to be be inclusive (a proper pursuit) we give a pass to the 6th century Theocracy of Islam and the behavior of its adherents) while criticizing, even denouncing more moderate faiths with a more modern outlook.

It's as if by acting this way some on the extreme left feel it makes everything somehow fair and equal. Misplaced quilt can be a dangerous thing.

Thou shalt not criticize Islamists, I guess. Thank the Lord that we still have guys like Sam Harris and Pat Condell who correctly point out the abject stupidity of the Koran and who aren't afraid of retribution. That, and we'll always have Christopher Hitchens (via spirit) as well.
