On the Fact that While the Early Pioneers of Western Kansas Were Amongst the Bravest, Hardiest, and Most Industrious of Our Ancestors, it Is Also Fair to Say that Their Decision to Spread Out Onto Isolated Farms (as Opposed to Creating Settlements with Block Houses, Sod Forts, etc.) Prompted Hundreds of Them to Die Horrible Deaths at the Hands of Kiowa, Comanche, and Arapaho War Parties

Strength in numbers, that's for certain (and, yes, there's a moral in that for the present-day man, if only he was smart enough to discern it).
