Yeah, it was a crude forgery and the fact that the leader of the free world would fall for such a piece of rank propaganda and be so complicit in it (especially in lieu of the way that the British had yanked our chains a quarter of a Century earlier) is as powerful a display of why the will to an imperial Presidency is something that needs to be squashed as any that you're likely to witness (right up there with Bush 2's WMD and LBJ's Gulf of Tonkin).
