"Big government is invariably, primarily, the servant of the strong, of the organized, the educated, the affluent, the lawyered up. That's why Washington is what it is today."
Seems like the government is growing, but the metrics don't quite fit. In 1989, the population was 246.82 million and the non-military federal bureaucracy was 3.064 million. Today, the population is 313.9 million and the bureaucracy is 2.721 million. Population up, federal employment down. If I calculated correctly, Reagan had 1.24% of us employed while Obama has 0.86% Big government has always been big. (even bigger)

It will continue, unabated. We are creatures of habit. And, we like to be told all manners of BS as well as be manipulated.
Karl Rove, FOX News, MSNBC, you complete, the list understands this.
Jeffrey Immelt understands it, too. First by playing footsy with Bush and now with Obama.

I certainly didn't mean this in a partisan way. Bush, for example, immensely increased the regulatory burden.
