On Sandra Fluke
1) Sandra Fluke does NOT have a God-given right to Georgetown University's cash. She especially doesn't have a right to it if violates Georgetown University's LONG-STANDING moral principles. I mean, I know that this is a difficult concept for those who think that people should basically be given whatever it is that they want and all BUT it is what it is.............2) If Sandra Fluke was smart enough to get into Georgetown University Law School, then she was also smart enough to get into the University of Maryland Law School, the University of Virginia Law School, George Washington University Law School, George Mason University Law School, Wake Forest University Law School, the University of North Carolina Law School, William and Mary University Law School, Duke University Law School, and any number of other institutions in her general area. AND she was also smart enough (or absolutely should have been) to know that the Catholic University that she ultimately DID decide to attend probably wasn't going to cover her contraception expenses.............3) Sandra Fluke is a 30 year-old law student who is currently on the precipice of a six figure salary and a degree from one of the top 15 Law Schools in America. For the left to somehow portray this gal as some sort of victim (aside from Mr. Limbaugh's idiotic commentary, I'm saying) is borderline nauseating. Enough already.............4) If Sandra Fluke is currently unable to afford her contraception expenses, then she can go to any number of clinics in the Washington D.C. area and probably get them free (this, as the result of Title 10). AND, if by chance that she doesn't qualify for that, then she can go to Walmart or another discount pharmacy and get her contraception for $9 a month (I'm assuming that there are Walmarts in the D.C. area). There is no need WHATSOEVER for this Sandra Fluke person to ever have to go without contraception. Bubkis.

????
The money that goes into providing this health insurance that she's presently bitching about.
Now is'nt this interesting....it seems that Ms.Fluke's media appearences are being run by Anita Dunn.Yep,that Anita Dunn the former communications director for Obama.Cant be anything fishy going on here...no it all has to be above board...does'nt it.
She has a right to expect that her insurance cover her medical needs. Also, this isn't just about her. She's advocating on behalf of other (female) students. And I don't care if Anita Dunn the former communications director for Obama is involved.
Religious institutions should be in favor of birth control, as it reduces abortions. Nowhere does the Bible forbid birth control. The Bible also does not mention abortion, but I think working to reduce the number of abortions is a good thing.
Personally, I think this is a way to keep women in their place. Down with religious zealotry, I say. These institutions should be forced to comply with the law. Or we could pass single-payer and the debate would be moot. That would be my preferred solution.
From what I've read, Georgetown, like most universities, offers
(indeed mandates if students have
no covereage from their parents)
healthcare insurance. Students pay approximately $3000 a year. For those interested, the policy is available for
online review. IMO, the money she
is 'presently bitching about' is her own, and since the university
mandates coverage, it is the U which has the God-given right to
Ms. Fluke's cash...or so it would seem.
You libs are really thick headed at times. Now BB jumps in with the same tired talking point.
Here's the news flash...its NOT about contraception...its about forcing a religious entity to violate its beliefs...I mean come on thats not all that hard to understand.
The church has held these beliefs for over 2000 years and you on the left expect them to ignore them.
Will: ...she can go to Walmart or another discount pharmacy and get her contraception for $9 a month.
From Wikipedia: "According to an employee at the pharmacy in Washington DC's Target store, the pharmacy sells birth control pills—the generic versions of Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Ortho-Cyclen—for $9 per month... However, a spokesperson for Target later told the Daily Caller that this $9 rate was exclusive to a program that provides discounted prescription drug rates to employees of participating local businesses. This rate would not have been available to Georgetown Law students like Fluke".
Rusty: ...its NOT about contraception... it's about forcing a religious entity to violate its beliefs... I mean come on that's not all that hard to understand. The church has held these beliefs for over 2000 years...
The pill "was first approved for contraceptive use in the United States in 1960". That's 52 years, not 2000. Also, the Bible does not say anything about contraception.
The bible may not say anything about contraception....but the catholic church sure does and it has been around for 2000 years. This church will not change its dogma so Sandra Fluke can engage in her sexual adventures without care or worry.
Walmart has been offering $9 a month contraception since 2007. And I've seen nowhere else on line of any restrictions to the Target offer period.......I personally find the Catholic teaching on contraception ridiculous. But it's their belief and as long as we still have religious liberty and they're the ones who are cutting the checks (a policy that covers contraception costs more than a policy that doesn't), then I strongly suggest that a student who wants some free birth control go to a non-Catholic university.......And, just for the record, I'm IN FAVOR of Federal funding for Planned Parenthood (something that definitely puts me at odds with the Republicans), so if you're going to throw that just don't care about poor women schpeel at me you can stuff it.
Actually a policy not covering contraception could cost more given the cost of pregnancy, child birth, and taking into account the medical costs of raising a child...even an unwanted one.
Will: Walmart has been offering $9 a month contraception since 2007.
You know this how? Newsmax? (that's the link that came up on top when I googled).
Also, Jerry is correct. They cost of not providing it is higher. This is why The president's compromise said the insurance companies should pay. It's in their financial interest to do so.
Walmart's $9 a month contraception plan is a well-known fact and so is Target's. This has absolutely nothing to do with Newsmax making things up. Nice try, though.............And if somebody has a child, the cost of the policy (via employer contributions) for the worker generally goes up. Not that that's even the point, though. The point is religious liberty.
I support Mr. Obama's compromise. But it doesn't apply to self-insured faith-based institutions.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/09/27/news/companies/walmart_healthcare/index.htm.....So, is CNN a part of the great right-wing conspiracy now, too?
Will: So, is CNN a part of the great right-wing conspiracy now, too?
I did NOT say there was a "conspiracy" regarding this issue. I was simply trying to figure out why Fluke said (in her Congressional testimony) the price was a LOT higher... if it really is "a well-known fact" why the story about how someone she knew lost an overy due to not being able to get contraception?
If your response is "she lied", forget it... What I'm looking for is the REAL reason.
Will: Walmart's $9 a month contraception plan is a well-known fact and so is Target's.

Since the greeks invented money no one but the greeks have a right to their intellectual property, i.e. money.
As for Fluke, she has a right to healthcare coverage as provided by the college for students as does every student.
As for an institution, Institutions don't have rights as they are not people. Institutions don't have religious liberty.
And here I thought conservatives are violently opposed to collective rights... Because that's socialism.
But, then rigorous adherence to standards is so difficult.
Next, thing you know Right-Wingers will be declaring criticizing the President during a time of war is treason. And a President isn't responsible for rising gas prices...
Fluke is a pawn and a willing one, at that. Methinks that there are plenty of Walmarts in Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland.
I just got off the phone with the Target Pharmacy in my home town and there are NO restrictions. As long as you have a prescription you can get one of two generics for $9 a month.
If this issue is as straight-forward as you make it out to be... Rush seems to have made a very dumb argument. Why didn't he make the case you just did?
Perhaps Limbaugh is a willing pawn too? Maybe he threw himself under the bus so people, so disgusted with what he said, would take Fluke's (and thus the Democrats) side?
Rush Limbaugh = Deep cover Democratic operative?
I actually listened to Limbaugh yesterday. I was driving home from a doctor's appointment and caught a little bit of his craziness. My opinion? Try, he's an idiot!
