Yes, the Spaniards possessed horses, body armor, and guns but being that the firearms were primitive at the time and the Indians numbered in the hundreds of thousands it's really hard to imagine the former chalking up a clear-cut victory without the thousands and thousands of men from other tribes (the Tlaxcalan in particular) who were all too willing to perpetrate violence on their nemesis. Thankfully for the left, THEIR "imagination" remains robust.
