One For the French

Here's an interesting morsel, folks. According to Wikianswers, France has one lawyer for every 1,300 citizens while America has one for every 280 citizens....I'm sorry, but I've got to give France the advantage on this one.

  1. Even in the States, there is a wide
    distribution range of
    legal beagles. Not sure why.

  2. Why BB? Think John Edwards or the gal who got 300,000 for spilling hot coffee in her lap.We are a sue society.

  3. I don't doubt that, Rusty. I'm not sure why NY has 8.4/1000, Cal has
4.2, my state, ID 2.2 and neighboring states Ark (2.0) and
LA (3.9 vary so much. I suspect most are not involved in suits, however, but mundane stuff like
divorce, real estate, tax law, etc.
Even I saw one about 12 years back to draw up a will - codicil not being in my lexicon.

  4. In any case our society is an out of control litigious culture. I believe this has been accomplished by design. Think Congress and the Senate and the number of lawmakers that are attorneys. Of course our federal and state judges have a hand in it as well.

  5. RN: And bad judges that don't throw out frivolous lawsuits.

The woman who got rich when she chose to spill hot coffee in her own lap, in a more just society, would be in prison.

  6. Now when I go to Starbuck's and order my Tazo Tea, it's lukewarm even before I put my milk in it. Thankfully the smaller independent places still have scaldingly hot beverages.
