It has been claimed by some (http://historynewsnetwork.org/article/18870) that the Castro regime was prepared to use over 500 kilos of TNT (five time the amount that al Qaeda used in their 2004 Madrid attack), and that the death tally would have exceeded that of 9/11. Holy crap, huh? Thankfully the FBI was able to foil the plot and can you really blame JFK at this juncture for trying to kill that SOB? I can't.
Well, the Cuban Missile Crisis also showed Castro wanting to kill scores of millions of Americans in nuclear hell fire too.
ReplyDeleteSo who did Castro hate more, Will. Americans or Cubans?
And while you are mentioning Castro, don't forget the later war of Angolan independence against the Soviets... one of the last wars of Africa throwing off European colonialism. Castro sent troops to rape and slaughter the Angolans to help keep Angola a colony.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell a great deal about a country by its immigration and emigration patterns. Under Batista (who of course had warts, too), people were flocking into Cuba and under Castro they were leaving the place en masse.......It doesn't take a genius, now does it?
ReplyDeleteYeah, and Cuban cigars deteriorated under Castro as well! :-(
ReplyDeleteThe same also applies to the states in the US. Certain bloggers talk about how the quality of life in Massachusetts (or other blue paradises) is superior to just about every state.... and they cherry-pick some reports to show this.
ReplyDeleteBut when it comes to the type of "poll" that can't be cooked... people's actual choices in where to retire, raise a family, etc.... the figures are a lot different, and you get more people deciding that "Red" states like Texas and North Dakota have a better quality-of-life than Massachusetts by the most accurate indicator possible: choosing to live there.
And CT is worse than MA. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't CT have a large population dependent on government assistance?
ReplyDeleteCherry picking is bipartisan dmarks and I'm certain Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, to name a few are not key destinations for people relocating. And, have you checked the population of Norh Dakota lately.
Yes, i did... North Dakota has the largest population growth since 2011, according to the Census.
ReplyDeleteYes both sides cherrypick... the point is that that you can tell a lot about a state by its emigration and immigration patterns. And there, the blue-state-paradise narrative falls apart. The actual picture of which state is better to live in is really quite mixed.
ReplyDeleteThe North Dakota population growth is an outlier dmarks....its due to the oil boom there, which is now declining.
Check out the recent growth in Florida....it seems Rick Scott's programs are working.
Everything is an outlier for this or that reason. Some worse than others (Granholm's Michigan Miracle), some better.
DeleteIf I didn't live in MA Denmark would be my next choice.
ReplyDeletePrimarily because the QL I'd excellent civil liberties are recognized and protected. Outstripping the USA.
