We might be able to salvage Homer by telling these shits that a) the fellow was blind (oppression points - HELLO!!) and b) he wrote a great deal about powerful female figures ranging from the goddesses Athena, Circe (a nymph), and Calypso (an enchantress), to strong and complicated earthly characters such as Penelope. By putting it into terms that have some meaning for them, in other words.............The other fellows, yeah, they're toast (though, yes, you could probably use the female angle with Hawthrone and Fitzgerald as well).
