On (Kennedy Aid) Ted Sorenson's Claim that JFK's Speech to the Economic Club of New York Which Stressed the Need for Across the Board Tax Cuts (as Well as a Cut in the Capital Gains Rate) Sounded "More Like Herbert Hoover"
Sorenson must have been an idiot in that anybody who's ever examined the actual record would have known that Hoover raised the top marginal rate by 158% (from 245 to 62%) and that Hoover (he of the "beneficent hand") wasn't any more of a Coolidge/Harding Republican than Kennedy was a Roosevelt/Stevenson Democrat. Thankfully JFK didn't listen to economically illiterate stiffs a la Sorenson, Arthur Schlesinger, Al Gore Sr., etc. and eschewed the Keynesian deficit-spending model and the rest is as they say history.
