George Zimmerman's Uncle, Jorge Mesa

So, anybody out there want to call this fellow a "self-described Hispanic"? Anybody?

  1. He's the face of white privilege. According to Time Magazine, anyway.

  2. The uncle has LESS Caucasian DNA than Obama does.

  4. The idiot, wd, hasn't been paying attention, Russ. Mr. Zimmerman's uncle and mother are ONE FOURTH BLACK!!!!!!! Yep, Mr. Zimmerman's great grandfather was a BLACK Cuban and the rest of his mother's side is Peruvian (predominantly Native American OBVIOUSLY). For morons like wd to be going around saying that Zimmerman is a "white Hispanic" and a "self-described Hispanic" is absolutely despicable, in my opinion.......And Obama's family never experienced slavery and so he can put a sock in that idiotic argument, too. What a stooge.

  5. And Native-Americans (of which Mr. Zimmerman clearly is part) WERE enslaved. As late as the 1730s nearly a third of all the slaves in the colonies were indigenous folks, and the only reason that that stopped was because native-Americans weren't able to contend with European diseases. wd - ignorant yet again.

  6. ".And Obama's family never experienced slavery "

As someone with close Kenyan ancestry, there is a good chance that Obama has ancestors who were victimized by the slave trade. However, in this part of the world, the perpetrators were all Black Africans, or Arabian Muslims

Something that he might have a bone to pick, if at all, with the Muslim nations, and certainly not with the US, which was entirely uninvolved with this.

  7. That's a good point and one that Thomas Sowell brings up in several of his books.

  8. As for the idiot, wd, when I underscored here that to refer to Zimmerman as a "white Hispanic" is identical to calling Obama a "white African-American", he protested. "It isn't the same with Hispanics (seemingly endorsing the crazy-assed concept) , he muttered (inarticulately, of course)". "They were never slaves." Of course, when I informed the imbecile that a) Zimmerman is 1/8th black himself, b) that he is 3/8th Peruvian (predominantly Native-American), and c) that Native-Americans had also suffered via slavery, he did what he always do (apologies to Allen Iverson), and lashed out incoherently. Damn, he'll never change.

  9. if WD said that, he really is an idiot. Everyone's ancestors are slaves. In looking up the Arab slave trade last night, I found references to slaves being taken from Northern Europe. The word itself comes from Slav.... a very large Eastern European and WHITE ethnic group also commonly enslaved.

  10. Rusty: Wow. I just checked the crapstorm going on over at DOA's blog. I will disagree with you on one thing: DOA is not a "quiet" racist. He as been trumpeting his ignorant bigotry and prejudice in hundreds, if not thousands, of comments.

And yes, as the modern NAACP frequently does demand discrimination against people based on skin color, it is indeed racist. The elder Zimmerman was correct about this.

Only a racist would give a black person a free pass for bigotry.

  11. Check this post out:

    http://newspaperrock.bluecorncomics.com/2013/07/zimmerman-acquitted-of-trayvons-murder.html

The writer calls Saddam Hussein brown, and George Zimmerman a "white man". The irony of presenting Zimmerman's very ethnic, non-white-looking photo in own post is lost on him.

The blog writer usually speaks on Indian issues.... often involving those with less Indian blood than Zimmerman. But here, Zimmerman's Nativeness is totally ignored.

This post needs a good blast of common sense, and not just from me.

  12. And many Hispanics DO have a slavery lineage. Just look at the racial composition of many of the Hispanics from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and even from Columbia. The slave trade was rampant in the Caribbean there was a massive amount of intermarriage between the Spaniards, the freed slaves, and the indigenous people. Once again, wd is totally clueless.
