OF COURSE THEY SHOULD BE PAYING MORE FOR THEIR MEDICARE. I mean, my God, this is such an obvious no-brainer that even former President Carter agrees with it (and he even said so on the Rachel Maddow Show once). Come on, people!
The real questions are: 1. Are they paying enough more, and if not how much more should they pay? 2. At what income levels should they more? 3. If their premiums are higher, should high income people also pay a higher payroll tax while they are working?
No, Jerry, people making a million or so a year aren't paying enough and I'm sure that we can come up with an agreed upon figure for a threshold. As to the third question, I have no problem with the cap going up $5-10,000 in order to help with solvency.
I stand corrected, Jerry.......As for the threshold, why can't we make it progressive? The $85,000 person pays a little more but the $500,000 person pays a lot more.
They already do.

ReplyDeleteThere is no cap on Medicare, only SS.
ReplyDeleteThe threshold amount now is $85,000 for individuals and $170,000 for couples.

Rusty, yeah, go figure... huh?
ReplyDeleteIt just proves how selfless and giving they are, to sacrifice so much of what belongs to others without giving anything of themselves.
