Some Questions For Bill O'Reilly 1

So, Bill, why should I watch you at 8PM and NOT Anderson Cooper? Are you saying that you're a fairer arbiter than Mr. Cooper? Are you saying that you're somehow a better journalist than him (and, please, keep in mind, the fellow followed up on the Haiti earthquake for weeks - actually reporting from there for a fairly decent portion of it)? What is it? I mean, there's got to be something - something of a tangible nature that you can point me to....And, no, don't even try to point me to all of those meely-mouthed/hand-picked liberals who you're constantly putting on to ridicule, legitimize the indefensible, etc.. That, me-bucko, while it may be moderately entertaining, isn't even remotely journalistic....I mean, that is what we're talking about here, right?

  1. Is O'Reilly a journalist, or a personality?

Does he influence others, or merely entertain?

He has the top-rated cable news show for 10 years in a row in his time slot. 10 years. Either he is doing an awesome job, or people are just brainwashed.

I have seen The Factor. meh...shrugs shoulders...

I like it when Dennis Miller is on, and I do like some of the Dick Morris visits, but...meh.

  2. Will, you're on an island by your self on this one.O'Reilly crushes the other three cable news networks...with his ratings it cant just be arch-conservatives watching.
I'm not a big Factor fan but like Ecc do enjoy Dennis Miller on Wed..
I'd never bought or read any of O'Reilly'd previous books, but I did buy and read his new book Killing Lincoln....I've got to say it was pretty damn good.

  3. I'll make it unanimous. I like Dennis Miller, too. Shane Stant, that supposed hitman in the Nancy Kerrigan fiasco, "He had an alibi. He was spotted climbing out of some primordial morass, learning how to stand upright."

  4. I will chime in also.

O'Reilly lost me with his who-can-you-trust? "who's looking out for you" drivel which contrasted with his sexually harassing an employee.

I've never worn out on Dennis Miller, though.

  5. My favorite Dennis Miller line was during the Million Women march on Washington a few years ago....Miller said "Hey girls, while you're up...get me a beer."

  6. And Will,if you consider Barney Frank,Dennis Kucinich,Charlie Rangle,Al Sharpton and Michael Moore meely/mouthed liberals (all guests on O'Reilly)I'd have to dissagree with you.

  7. Here's another one. "The only thing that I learned from the whole impeachment process is that CNN's Greta Van Susteren (yes, this is an older joke) moves her mouth like Clutch Cargo."............That's a fair point, Russ. But also keep in mind that when he does have a guy like Barney Frank on, he almost always interrupts them, shouts them down, etc. - something that he doesn't usually do with a Republican.

  8. Barney Frank deserves a lot of shouting down. He's probably responsible more than any other individual for causing the economic meltdown. I'd hand O'Reilly a bullhorn for this shout-down.

  9. Not a big fan of Frank, either, dmarks (just ask wd). Overall, though/big picture, I would probably have to say that Greenspan was the biggest precipitator (that's not a real word, is it?) of the economic meltdown; the fact that he set up a bailout culture, printed tons and tons of currency, distorted the economy with artificially low interest rates, etc.. Not that there isn't more than enough blame to go around, mind you.

  10. dmarks: Barney Frank [is] probably responsible more than any other individual for causing the economic meltdown.

I don't know how Barney Frank voted on the deregulation bills signed by Clinton. If he voted NO I'd say his responsibility is zero. Even he voted YES I'd place him way down the list as far as "responsibility" goes.

At the top of the list of those responsible are Phil Gramm, Bill Clinton and Alan Greenspan.

Barney Frank was actually among those who warned of a potential problem with Fannie and Freddie, not that they contributed much to the economic downturn, mind you.

Rusty: my favorite Dennis Miller line was... "Hey girls, while you're up... get me a beer".

And yet, if I made an accusation using a certain word beginning with an "M" Rusty would deny it... and Will would jump to his defense.

Will: I'll make it unanimous. I like Dennis Miller, too.

I used to like Dennis Miller when he was on SNL. I even liked that TV program he had after SNL. But he must have lost his mind some time after that. I can no longer stand the man.

  11. WD,would that "M" word be manly or macho? I'm thinking I could use a "W" word to discribe you....and maybe Will would agree.

  12. O'Reilly is a good entertainer and is blessed with a good time slot.

That being said, I find rachel Maddow insufferable and Olberman get's old after a couple minutes.

Football or baseball are on anyway so I watch none of them.

  13. Amazing. Agreement. And apparently Truth likes O'Reilly a little better than I do.

Olbermann: a failure in the twilight of his career. Kicked into the basement.

  14. dmarks: Olbermann [is] a failure in the twilight of his career. Kicked into the basement.

"Failure" is a significant raise and control of the entire news division? I'd love to experience that kind of "failure" myself.

Truth: ...I find rachel Maddow insufferable and Olberman get's old after a couple minutes.

I like Rachel Maddow. I do not find her "insufferable" in the least. Keith Olbermann could never get old. I never miss an airing.

If I were to call anyone "insufferable" it would be Billo. Also, the guy is over 70... this has got to be the twilight of HIS career.

  15. wd, you never give up on Barney Frank. I gave metaphysical proof that the man lied not once but twice on national television (once to Larry King and the other time on CNBC).......And to say that a 154 billion dollar bailout is insignificant proves just how tight that ideological straight-jacket of yours is.

  16. Rusty is the w-word, weasel?......And what's with this whole only liking people who agree with you bullshit of his? It's like, what, he finds out that a person voted for a Republican in 1992 and decides, "Oop, nope, can't be friends with you!" And he thinks that he's the only angry young ideologue who's ever lived. I went to frigging college in the frigging 70s, for Christ! Marxism, yup. Socialism, yup. C. Wright Mills and Jonathan Kozol for breakfast, yup. It's part of growing up. But then you actually DO grow up. You know what I'm sayin'?

  17. Actually Will, the word I thought discribed WD was "wussy." But I guess weasel would fit also.Take your pick.
