It's a Toss-Up Between The Flying Burrito Brothers (Circa Parsons/Hillman) and Uncle Tupelo

What would be my answer to the question, "So, who, in your opinion, is the greatest rock and roll band ever?"...........................................................................................................P.S. I'd probably have to also throw out an honorable mention to Emmylou Harris's Spyboy. Those sons 'a bitches can play it up something fierce.

  1. Too many definitions of rock n roll to answer Will.

But to throw one from left field at you, Bill Haley and His Comets.

  2. The firstest, and, yes, one of the bestest, too.

  3. If you're going to consider the burrito brothers you have to throw in The New Riders of The Purple Sage.

  4. NRPS were an off shoot of The Greatfull Dead. They had two best selling albums. The second was The Adventures of Panama Red.They were actually pretty good,I think some of the original members still tour. But,if you want R&R from back then go no further then The Band or Joe Cocker.

  5. I'm all about The Band, Russ; "The Weight", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "The Shape I'm In", etc.. I watch "The Last Waltz" as often as possible.

  6. Who? If they were the greatest ever you'd think they be a little better known. I've never heard of any of them. (I've heard of Emmylou Harris, but that's it).

The best rock n roll band ever was unquestioningly the Beatles. Surely you have heard of them?

  7. Popularity and greatness do not go hand in hand. Stallone was a lot more popular than Jeremy Irons and Willem DaFoe, but he sure as hell wasn't better.......Yes, the Beatles are awesome.
