"Since 1948 it is we who demanded the return of the refugees......while it is we who made them leave......We brought disaster upon......Arab refugees, by inviting them and bringing pressure to bear upon them to leave......We have rendered them dispossessed......We have accustomed them to begging......We have participated in lowering their moral and social level......Then we exploited them in executing crimes of murder, arson, and throwing bombs upon men, women, and children - all this in the service of political purposes." Former Syrian Prime Minister, Khaled Al-Azm, in his 1972 memoirs
"Since 1948 Arab leaders have approached the Palestine problem in an irresponsible Manner.......They have used the Palestine people for selfish political purposes. This is ridiculous and, I could say, even criminal." King Hussein of Jordan, 1960.
"......all the Arabs of Palestine shall leave and be divided up among the neighboring Arab countries. In exchange for this, all the Jews living in Arab countries will go to Palestine...... The exchange of populations should be carried out in the same way that Turkey and Greece exchanged their populations. Special committees must be set up to deal with the liquidation of Jewish and Arab property. I fear, in truth, that the Arabs would not agree......But in spite of this, I take upon myself the task of convincing them......" Mojli Amin, member of the Arab Defense Committee for Palestine, 1939.
Unfortunately there weren't enough of 'em. Clearly.
